Joy and Stillness

Joy and stillness both as one
Together fill my living soul.
I wish to leap and then to run,
Yet carefully to mull:

To ponder what this life is for –
Watching planets turn in time.
Each day learning further more;
Each tall precipice to climb

So, joy and stillness fill my heart
And guide me through my search.
Until at last I fill my part
And pass on though the lurch.

You Walked Away

You walked away,
And I stared after you.
I realized then
The thing that I must do.

But frozen still,
My mind refused to move.
I tried to speak
But lost the words I knew.

You wrenched my gut
And made my heart turn blue.
I felt the fear:
The chance that I would lose.

But then I watched,
Amazed as you returned.
And dazed I felt
The place where your kiss burned

I Spent My Chaos In Exchange

I spent my chaos in exchange

For empty space to sit and be.

My strange new place of respite gained,

I turned my thoughts away from me.

This moment still – a simple joy –

Allows my soul to find a stream

To think and trace with careful ploy,

How best to quench my thirst so deep.

When ‘round the bend my conscience plods

And finds there what I’d come to seek,

Then I perceive my own facade,

And from this cage I am set free.

Best Foods

The life of men would not do well

If it were not for sweet potatoes.

This awesome food tastes really swell,

I owe a debt to sweet potatoes.

The same for buds high on a tree,

They grow and turn to tasty pears.

I had the flu and they cured me,

I love the juice of tasty pears.

Pondering my prized propitious pear,

Bobbing for potatoes, pomme de terre.

Thief

One day in class, I lost my chair;

Some blonde with curls was sitting there.

I stopped and stared in disbelief,

What could I say to such a thief?

She looked at me, a smile flashed,

So I forgave her with a laugh.

But as I went to find a seat,

Her shining eyes kept watching me.

I froze. I blanked. I smiled back.

I nearly had a heart attack.

She laughed. She glowed. She looked away.

I’m still in shock unto this day.

Seasons

The heat is here and men work hard to live.

They hope the year will quickly have an end,

And spring will come with rain and joy to give,

But now all life feels cursed and won’t relent.

In fall the life that dies and leaves this earth

Is gone for good till spring with joy returns.

The year will end as sadness turns to mirth,

But now the grass is gone and flower burns.

In dark the death is done, and trees are bare.

All life has left and cold has come to stay.

It seems that spring will ne’er again be here,

And life will fail before the new spring day.

The Spring has come and life returns at last!

The year is new and death is now the past.

True Spring

In Spring there is new life that is released;

It roars and flows and down the stream it runs.

Its breath has come and dreaded death has ceased,

Now turn and look the dawn is quickly come.

The lion wakes and roars upon the chase,

The world is clean and flowers now are grown,

The King of Kings is in his rightful place,

The quest is done – the ring is now o’er thrown.

But life is short and quickly ending is,

As withered fading grass at summer’s end.

The crawling creature, twisted serpent, lives

To see the King in bloodless body spent.

And yet in death is hope, though spring be iced,

For life returns upon the spring of Christ.
